Joel Gibb’s out-there Canadian indie-folk collective have performed their ‘gay church folk music’ everywhere from porn theatres to art galleries. With a lyrical flourish that’s always fearless and dead, dead funny Gibbs is probably most famous for ‘Boys Of Melody’ from the ‘Shortbus’ movie. Meanwhile the notorious ‘Golden Streams’ is about… well, you can probably guess what it’s about. His finest moment, though, remains this chaotic, crazy story about a heterosexual union that comes off the rails at the alter. And does he really sing “There is splendour in the harshness of bum”?
