Rowan Williams Says It’s Time For Minorities To Step Back.

The Archbishop of Canterbury has come to the indefensible conclusion that identity politics and minority rights are fragmenting society.

“Williams fudged the issue so completely that he sidestepped it, and proved that the old guard does not understand the implications of cultural diversity.”

[rating=3]
Hong-Kong-China: 92 min • Heart Production • 2012

Simon Chung’s Speechless is interesting yet not quite successful, says Polari‘s reviewer Michael Langan.

“Speechless is a film of two halves, beginning as a slow-burning mystery-cum-romance before turning into a love-triangle thriller, but it doesn’t really manage to pull off making those parts into a cohesive whole.”

Abominable Voices

28 Mar 2012 / Comments Off / in Opinion/by Paul Baker

A History of Newspaper Homophobia.

Paul Baker looks at the history of homophobia in the British press.

“Although the name-calling has largely disappeared, the negative attitudes took longer to shift, and the newspapers more narrowly focused their ire on ‘the gay lobby’ who kept demanding bizarre and unreasonable things like the right to fight for their country, or have their relationships acknowledged.”

About Polari Magazine

Polari Magazine is an LGBT arts and culture magazine that explores the subculture by looking at what is important to the people who are in it. It’s about the lives we lead, not the lifestyles we’re supposed to lead.

Its content is informed & insightful, and features a diverse range of writers from every section of the community. Its intent is to help LGBT readers learn about their own heritage and to sustain a link between the present and the past.

Polari is designed to nurture the idea of community, whether that be social and political, or artistic and creative. It is your magazine, whether you want to read it, or whether you want to get involved in it, if you're gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans, or queer.

Polari Magazine is all these: it's a gay online magazine; it's a gay and lesbian online magazine; it's an LGBT arts and culture magazine. Ultimately, it is a queer magazine.
