Hit So Hard

A Documentary about Hole’s drummer, Patty Schemel

This documentary, which Little Bastard lapped up “like a thirsty puppy”, combines behind the scenes footage of when Patty Schemel was with Hole interspersed with up-to-date interview.

“The film is composed of home video footage shot by Patty and other people on her Hi-8 camera, interspersed with interviews with Hole’s other band members, Patty’s family and friends, and a host of talented female drummers. This is the sort of archive footage most music historians would kill for.”

Kylie takes to the road with a collection of largely unknown songs.

“I feel like Kylie has dumbed herself down for the masses – trotting her feather boa’d showgirl alter ego out to an adoring public who love her for who she is, not for what she performs”

Noah • Noah Stewart

Released March 26, 2012

The debut album ‘Noah’, from classical opera singer Noah Stewart, features a great talent singing a predictable set of songs.

“The orchestrations are consistently beautiful, and Noah proves over and over again that he can sing better than the majority of opera singers who release albums. I just find it difficult to see in these songs the fire – that passion that makes him want to sing.”

The third album from Wallis Bird is a tumultuous and epic journey. First rate.

“This is late night folk, in a dark room with your window cracked.”

How About I Be Me (And You Be You) • Sinead O’Connor

[rating=4]
Released February 27, 2012

Little Bastard finds strong lyrics, love and, of course, religion on Sinead’s latest album.

“This collection of beautiful, heartwarming and frank songs come as a revelation. Everything is tackled on this album, from a personal innner dialogue to a wider social commentary.”

Speech Debelle, February 23, 2012

Polari’s reviewer Little Bastard relishes in the political bitemarks to be had at Speech Debelle’s Jazz Café gig

“Dressed in a t-shirt and a pair of combat trousers, she bounded around the stage, not so much with energy, but with purpose. She was here to get her message heard, and no one was going to leave without getting that message.”

Pure Love, February 14, 2012

Polari’s reviewer Little Bastard nearly gets caught in a mosh pit at Pure Love’s debut gig.

“Always the perfect front man, Frank threw himself around the stage, spat in his own face, jumped into the crowd to sing an intimate ballad (yes, a whole ballad!) and crowd surfed, complaining afterwards “I’m too old for this shit”, as he tucked his shirt back in.”

Sounds From Nowheresville • The Ting Tings

21 Feb 2012 / Comments Off / in Music/by Little Bastard

[rating=5]
Released February 27, 2012

The Ting Tings latest album is exciting and inventive mix-tape affair.

Pop is a dirty word in the music industry, and there is a danger that this album, like most truly great pop albums, will get ignored.

¿Which Side Are You On? • Ani DiFranco

Released January 17, 2012

The new Ani DiFranco is a return to form as well as something different.

It’s real and honest, something she does very well. This sense of contentment permeates the more personal parts of the album, and it’s nice to hear her sounding happy.

Brumalia • Patrick Wolf

Released December, 2011

Patrick Wolf’s EP Brumalia is a dark hymn to winter.

Somewhere between Patrick Wolf’s last two albums there is a story of the vampiric nature of love, and this EP is the story of that love.
