One Year On: Clayton Littlewood

21 Dec 2009 / Comments Off / in Interviews/by Christopher Bryant

Catching up with Clayton Littlewood one year on.

A year after first interviewing Clayton Littlewood, Polari Magazine talks to the writer about the stage play of Dirty White Boy and the possibilities for a sequel.

When all those celebrities got in contact I thought, ‘That’s it. I’ve made it.’ But when famous people get in contact it’s just like anyone else taking the time out to say they liked your work.

Watch out, the media vultures are circling

21 Dec 2009 / Comments Off / in Editorial/by Editor

Gay journalists are starting to shout more and think less.

It seems that high-pitch indignation has ruled, and calmer heads have not prevailed, in response to gay-related stories. And that’s just the gay Facebookers and media pundits.

It’s ok, though, the virtual-world commentariat are claiming that this “open secret” is not news. In other words, if you can’t react hysterically to a situation, why not be superior instead?

Clementine the Nutcracker

18 Dec 2009 / Comments Off / in Clementine: The Living Fashion Doll/by Clementine the Living Fashion Doll

Clementine battles the Beaver Queen

In another spectacular production, reminiscent of the heyday of 1970s television, the glamorous starlet Clementine celebrates the season with a fairy on the tree and a visit from a prince. With the handsome hunk Guilherme Logullo.

And what’s more Christmassy more than a mouthful of warm nuts.

Lillian Ladele appeal denied

18 Dec 2009 / Comments Off / in Bulletin Board/by Editor

The dread Lillian Ladelle is told where to go.

The Christian Institute and Lillian Ladele overruled by the Court of Appeal. Good sense prevailed in this emotive case.

The Court of Appeal ruling on December 15, 2009, is a landmark ruling because it clarifies the position of employees who object to aspects of their work on religious grounds.

A Polari Christmas

12 Dec 2009 / Comments Off / in Editorial/by Editor

Words from the Polari lexicon at Christmas!

A note about Polari words at Christmas, and a taste of Julian and Sandy with Kenneth Williams.

“Lau your luppers on the strillers bona!” Sandy instructs Julian, which is Polari for, in literal terms, “place your fingers on the piano keys well”. That would be “play something nice on the piano”.

Blood on the hands of the ex-gay proselytizers

09 Dec 2009 / Comments Off / in Bulletin Board/by Editor

To support Ugandan execution law, ex-gay ‘authorities’ from the US have been quoted..

The ex-gay fiction is again on the front line as the Ugandan government plan to introduce legislation that will extend their already draconian laws against homosexuality to include execution.

Rachel Maddow did an excellent job of taking down an ex-gay author Richard Cohen.

Clementine on Frank’s Closet

09 Dec 2009 / Comments Off / in Clementine: The Living Fashion Doll/by Clementine the Living Fashion Doll

Clementine is enamoured with the stage production Frank’s Closet

Clementine the Living Fashion Doll reviews Frank’s Closet in her own inimitable fashion … and with almost as many outfit changes.

It’s a testament to Gary Amers’ acting that I managed to concentrate on the plot at all, and not get distracted by his physique …

The Sound of Wonder

An interview with Tori Amos about her album Midwinter Graces.

Polari Magazine talks to Tori Amos the morning after her intimate performance at the Jazz Café in North London about the seasonal albumMidwinter Graces and the upcoming musical The Light Princess.

When you go to the bigger places and come back it’s quite a challenge because you have to not feel under a microscope, and you have to feel ok about being exposed.

How the Christians Stole Christmas

03 Dec 2009 / Comments Off / in Features/by Christopher Bryant

What exactly was Christmas before Christians co-opted it?

The Christmas story is the result of a cynical exercise by Christian apologists, and is a cornerstone in The Greatest Spin Ever Spun.

“It was not established until 375 AD that the birth of Christ occurred on December 25. It was through the Church of Antioch that Christianity was organised as a religion. The Roman Constantine inaugurated this change by adopting Christianity as the official religion of the Roman Empire.”
