You typed ‘what crap is madonna talking now’ into Google?

Search terms that have led readers to Polari.

It’s madness, and part of Polari’s WTF Friday features. Madonna, Alan Turing, public toilets, and the death penalty, again ….

“Last week it was simply ‘death penalty for fags’, but now ‘polari’ has been added, which is just weird, unless someone was looking for the translation of said terms into the glorious Polari lexicon. …”

E.M. Forster • The Italian Novels

176 pages & 256 pages • Penguin English Library • 31 May & 27 September, 2012 [PB]

E.M. Forster’s Italian novels are full of beauty and conflict, and the film versions are but pale shadow.

“A Room With A View is a romantic comedy, and a more conventional book than Where Angels Fear To Tread. Forster was apprehensive about it, and he fretted over the quality of the character’s inner lives.”

For a bleak book with a high death count, David Gee’s The Dropout is also also witty, clever, insightful and worldly-wise.

“David Gee’s tongue-in-cheek, if dark, social and sexual satire (a sort of cross between David Lodge and Tom Sharpe) leads us through a topsy-turvy world of sexual shenanigans and unconventional relationships.”

After seven years, Eyehategod is back with the single New Orleans Is The New Vietnam, from the new, as yet untitled, album.

“Williams’ voice is like no other; it’s not merely screaming or growling, his voice becomes an instrument in and of itself, his words blurring to become musical notes rather than something to sing along to. It’s the vocalization of a tortured soul in its purest form.”

And Nothing Happened.

Scott De Buitléir is reminded of a road not taken … because there was a road-block..

“Despite the good memories, he was detached while we were dating. I once teased him for having the emotional depth of a teaspoon, but in retrospect, that wasn’t too fair.”

The Bad Romances of Bastian Korff

25 Sep 2012 / Comments Off / in Interviews/by Christopher Bryant

Bad Romances.

Bastian Korff talks cabaret, finding the emotion in the pop songs he covers, and the difference between British and German audiences.

“Bastian Korff has a splendid, powerful voice. In his stripped-down renditions of classic pop he finds the heart of the song, and what he sings is raw and decidedly real.”

About Polari Magazine

Polari Magazine is an LGBT arts and culture magazine that explores the subculture by looking at what is important to the people who are in it. It’s about the lives we lead, not the lifestyles we’re supposed to lead.

Its content is informed & insightful, and features a diverse range of writers from every section of the community. Its intent is to help LGBT readers learn about their own heritage and to sustain a link between the present and the past.

Polari is designed to nurture the idea of community, whether that be social and political, or artistic and creative. It is your magazine, whether you want to read it, or whether you want to get involved in it, if you're gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans, or queer.

Polari Magazine is all these: it's a gay online magazine; it's a gay and lesbian online magazine; it's an LGBT arts and culture magazine. Ultimately, it is a queer magazine.
