Dollhouse: Season One

15 Aug 2009 / Comments Off / in Film & Television/by Editor

[rating=4]
US: 666 min • Fox Television • DVD

It may have started slow, but Dollhouse proved to be a fascinating series. The dollhouse is the base for people who are in a tabula rasa state. These voluntary ‘dolls’ have their personalities removed and stored on disc, which leaves them a blank slate onto which other personalities can be imprinted so that they can be sent out as operatives. Don’t be put off by episodes 3 and 4 …

By episode six, the Whedon written and directed ‘Man on the Street’, Dollhouse becomes compelling. The audio commentary, provided by Whedon alone, is a fascinating insight into the creative and production processes. Whedon is a master of the story arc.

“The subject of Alexander’s sexuality is unavoidable. In the Classical and Hellenistic Ages, sexuality was far more fluid than it is in Judaeo-Christian culture, to riot in understatement.”

This collection of strips from 2005-2008 lifts the lid on the twisted world of right-wing American politics. It is as funny as it is frightening.

This comic strip wonders what would happen if Jeffrey Dahmer had been a right wing pundit and published a book called Liberals: Kill Them and Eat Them; and solves the problem of the Republican ticket by introducing the newcomer ‘guy in a Reagan mask’ and his running mate, ‘another guy in a Reagan mask’.

The work of the NAT

NAT’s 2008 campaign Respect & Protect.

Prejudice results in everyday problems for those living with HIV that are not related to their HIV status. Difficulties at work, rejection by family and friends, violence: these too often result from the perception of HIV as portrayed in the media, and from fear resulting from ignorance about how HIV is passed on as well as an unfounded fear of becoming infected.
