Not Giving Up.

Scott is still chasing that date, and he’s just not going to give up …

“Then came the indirect invitation to come over, but at two in the morning, I didn’t realise this was an invitation to stay the night …”

Last Chance(?)

31 Oct 2012 / Comments Off / in Relationships/by Scott De Buitleir

A Second Date?

Scott magically gets a second date following the last tragic one … and then gets the run around.

“Most of it was small talk, with the odd bit of flirting/banter (flanter?) thrown in for good measure. It seemed too good to be true. It almost was.”

Meeting the Parents. Almost.

A Dating Disaster.

Scott stops a dating disaster from happening, then makes one happen regardless … or so it seems.

“This was the 21st Century style of first date where it’s the first time you meet offline, and it was already off to a bad start.”

Going the Distance

17 Oct 2012 / Comments Off / in Relationships/by Scott De Buitleir

Love Over The Miles.

Scott De Buitléir ponders the perils of long distance relationships.

“If you work Monday-to-Friday, travelling on a Friday evening after a week in the office is going to exhaust you. You’ll be great to cuddle into on Friday night, but only because you’re fast asleep from fatigue..”

Size queen alert!

Scott De Buitléir attends BearScotFest and finds himself asking the question: Does size matter?

“You also have to ask, since when did the gay community become so obsessed with forest animals.”

And Nothing Happened.

Scott De Buitléir is reminded of a road not taken … because there was a road-block..

“Despite the good memories, he was detached while we were dating. I once teased him for having the emotional depth of a teaspoon, but in retrospect, that wasn’t too fair.”

Tough Balls.

Scott De Buitléir learns the truth about rugby, but still keeps his eye open for a handsome winger …

“If anyone ever thought rugby is sexy, they need to try playing it themselves. It’s not – whatever you may think about the players off the pitch. Every bit of me hurt.”

An Open Letter To The Newly-Weds

12 Sep 2012 / Comments Off / in Relationships/by Scott De Buitleir

The Meaning of Marriage.

Scott De Buitléir writes a letter to his newly wed friends, and gets more than a little emotional …

“The ceremony was new to everyone, I think. Not only are we Irish used to Catholic weddings, but a Humanist ceremony for two men meant that no-one’s attention was lost.”

Nothing In Common.

Scott De Buitléir writes about ditching his Grindr profile, realising that he was not meeting anyone he had anything in common with.

About Polari Magazine

Polari Magazine is an LGBT arts and culture magazine that explores the subculture by looking at what is important to the people who are in it. It’s about the lives we lead, not the lifestyles we’re supposed to lead.

Its content is informed & insightful, and features a diverse range of writers from every section of the community. Its intent is to help LGBT readers learn about their own heritage and to sustain a link between the present and the past.

Polari is designed to nurture the idea of community, whether that be social and political, or artistic and creative. It is your magazine, whether you want to read it, or whether you want to get involved in it, if you're gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans, or queer.

Polari Magazine is all these: it's a gay online magazine; it's a gay and lesbian online magazine; it's an LGBT arts and culture magazine. Ultimately, it is a queer magazine.
