The Crane Wife: An Interview with Patrick Ness

22 Apr 2013 / Comments Off / in Interviews/by Christopher Bryant

The Extraordinary Happens Every Day.

Patrick Ness talks about his new novel The Crane Wife and how there’s a danger that social media can silence all but the loud voices.

“I’d just hate for the only people to speak to be the ones who are unafraid to be the loudest. The loudest are only part of society, and often not always the part that you want to hear.”

In Their Room London. The series is an fly-on-the-wall, verité style to show gay men in their private spaces at private moments. Insightful.

” They eat and wash and groom and wank (not necessarily in that order) and talk about aspects of their sexuality, from what they like in bed to their dreams and desires regarding relationships.”

Released April 2, 2013
Marcus Reeves finds the Man Band singing polished pop, with a touch of syrup.

“Despite three decades in the business, NKOTB are still firmly entrenched in the ‘together forever’ school of rhyme. You won’t find any Antony Hegarty style monologues on the moon or menstruation here, but that’s not what you’d expect or want from Boston’s best.”

Beautiful Thing

The grit, humour and emotion of Jonathan Harvey’s Beautiful Thing are all still wonderfully affecting 20 years on.

“The play is set (and was written) in a time when Section 28 was in place and gay characters were usually limited to marginalised rent boys.”

Judith Paris and the Alan Turing Musical

17 Apr 2013 / Comments Off / in Interviews/by Marcus Reeves

The Universal Machine.

Marcus Reeves talks to Judith Paris about her role as Sara Turing in The Universal Machine, a new musical about the life of Alan Turing.

“It’s so complicated, the story of the Enigma – and it is a wonderful story of Turing’s tenacity, but also wilful, ridiculous stupidity by the British Government. Not many people would decide to do a musical about a mathematician.”

Forgetting The Rules

17 Apr 2013 / Comments Off / in Relationships/by Scott De Buitleir

There To Be Broken?

Gay Relationship Column. Scottie assesses his rules of dating, at least one of which brands him a prude on the gay scene, and how it took a megadate to break almost all of them.

“Experienced in the lottery of first impressions, I keep a brave face and an upbeat tone, wondering how on earth this was going to turn out. “

About Polari Magazine

Polari Magazine is an LGBT arts and culture magazine that explores the subculture by looking at what is important to the people who are in it. It’s about the lives we lead, not the lifestyles we’re supposed to lead.

Its content is informed & insightful, and features a diverse range of writers from every section of the community. Its intent is to help LGBT readers learn about their own heritage and to sustain a link between the present and the past.

Polari is designed to nurture the idea of community, whether that be social and political, or artistic and creative. It is your magazine, whether you want to read it, or whether you want to get involved in it, if you're gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans, or queer.

Polari Magazine is all these: it's a gay online magazine; it's a gay and lesbian online magazine; it's an LGBT arts and culture magazine. Ultimately, it is a queer magazine.
