The Band Called Out For More • Gabby Young & Other Animals

12 Jun 2012 / Comments Off / in Music/by Little Bastard

[rating=4]
Released June 18, 2012
Gabby Young & Other Animals bring to life the magical side of the circus, with lilting waltzes and haunting brass.

“Listening to them conjures up images of 1920s sideshows, painted clowns playing brass instruments, tattooed and bearded ladies, bikini clad showgirls breathing fire and high wire walking contortionists.”

Karin Park • Highwire Poetry, Album Launch

01 Jun 2012 / Comments Off / in Music/by Little Bastard

[rating=5]
Karin Park, May 30, 2012

Little Bastard falls for Karin Park, and finds that she is not just a singer but a force of nature.

“This is how it must have felt to see Bjork in the mid ’90s – urgent music with one foot in leftfield and the other foot stamping on the mainstream’s face.”

Magic Hour • Scissor Sisters

28 May 2012 / Comments Off / in Music/by Little Bastard

[rating=4]
Released May 28, 2012
The fourth album from the Scissor Sisters, says Little Bastard, is a return to form. For the most part.

“The more popular they got, or so it seemed, the more they sounded like Elton John and the more they became the ideal band for gay men and middle aged women.”

135 min • Threesixty Theatre, Kensington Gardens • May 8 – Sep 9, 2012

Rupert Goold & Michael Fentiman’s adaptation of The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe is dark and inventive, and boasts a perfect cast.

“A master class in creativity, with a beautifully artistic vision, but younger children may lose their way with it.”

Bang EP • Molotov Jukebox

21 May 2012 / Comments Off / in Music/by Little Bastard

[rating=4]
Released May 21, 2012
This EP is, says Little Bastard, pure gypsy-punk-rock’n’roll classic, matching central American sounds with contemporary pop, jazz and even punk vocals to create an exciting melting pot of sounds.

“It makes me want to don a teddy boy suit and Mexican candy skull makeup while blasting this song out of the window of my Chevy! Yes, it’s that good it makes me want to learn to drive!”

IDAHO May 17 – Betrayed by my Best Friend

17 May 2012 / Comments Off / in IDAHO/by Little Bastard

There were worse things said at school than ‘gay’.

Little Bastard writes about the best friend that betrayed his trust. To celebrate IDAHO 2012 Polari Magazine is publishing a series of stories from its writers about homophobic, transphobic and biphobic incidents.

“When searching for a homophobic experience in my life to drag up, one that has shaped who I am and that still continues to do that to this day, this story was the only one I could think of.”

Hunx And His Punx, May 12, 2012

Little Bastard gets manhandled at Hunx’s Shacklewell Arms gig… and he liked it!

“Hunx could give Jake Shears and Ana Matronic a lesson in stagecraft and musicianship, and would probably scare the shit out of Rufus Wainwright, and that’s right up my dark, beer stained alley..”

A perfect album for a summer’s night: musically introspective and yet headily uplifting. That’s Wonky by Orbital.

.

“Authentic dance music is hard to come by, so it’s comforting that, in time for summer, we finally have a dance album that’s far more than just filler. All hail the return of Orbital!”

Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded • Nicki Minaj

11 Apr 2012 / Comments Off / in Music/by Little Bastard

[rating=4]
Released April 3, 2012

Nicki Minaj takes her music in a new an edgy direction with Roman Reloaded.

“A lot of the music on display here is as uncommercial as it is commercial, and stars like Rihanna would kill to sound this current.”

Polari is designed to nurture the idea of community, whether that be social and political, or artistic and creative. It is your magazine, whether you want to read it, or whether you want to get involved in it, if you're gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans, or queer.

Polari Magazine is all these: it's a gay online magazine; it's a gay and lesbian online magazine; it's an LGBT arts and culture magazine. Ultimately, it is a queer magazine.
