Unfounded Fears About Bisexuality.

“They’re not really ‘social’ issues, but just misconceptions – besides, since when were gay men the shining examples of fidelity and monogamy?”

The Post Break-up Rules.

Gay Relationship Column. Scottie gets a taste of his own medicine from an ex of many years ago.

“I started to bump into him again. He’d still ‘blank’ me, walking past me as if I were a complete stranger. It made sense to me when we first broke up, but I was beginning to think it was getting petty.”

After Coffee Text.

Gay Relationship Column. Scottie gets into a text exchange Coffee Guy, the one he randomly gave his number to, which is not all he hoped it would be.

“Despite a bit of eye contact, I couldn’t have been completely certain that he was gay, but I took the risk nonetheless. Now, I was completely giddy, like a kid who was just given the world’s biggest lollipop.”

Rom-Coms and Coffee.

Gay Relationship Column. Scottie catches up on the genre he used to love, the rom-com, and decides that his tastes should be redefined.

“All three were just as cheesy as you’d expect, with endings that you could predict from the opening credits. Still, I found myself going all teary-eyed and gasping at all the right moments, totally lost in the flawed-but-sweet plot of each one.”

Shakespears Sister, ‘Stay’.

To mark LGBT History Month, 2013, Polari asked its contributors to recall a song that had an impact their own stories.

” I was absolutely terrified of Death in this video, the alarm in me building with each step she took down the stairs. Now that I think about it, I sometimes react the same way with some drag queens, too.”

Get up … and go?

Gay Relationship Column. Scottie looks for “a guy who’s a bit of a bloke”, but what exactly does that mean … for him?

“There are different kinds of gyms, and just as gyms are like churches in gay culture, choosing one is like selecting which religion to follow.”

Look Out, Girls!

Gay Relationship Column. Scottie takes a different turn and, like Carrie Bradshaw before him, writes advice for the ladies who love.

“If there’s really only one main dating website for gay & bi girls, and most lesbian nights seem to flop, where’s left?.”

The one who got away, and came back again ….

Gay Relationship Column. Scottie homes in on a six foot beauty who is unfortunately attached … or is he?

“Alas, a Las Vegas wedding was not going to be on the cards, as it turned out he was dating someone, and shouldn’t have been doing a triple-take in my direction in the first place.”

About Polari Magazine

Polari Magazine is an LGBT arts and culture magazine that explores the subculture by looking at what is important to the people who are in it. It’s about the lives we lead, not the lifestyles we’re supposed to lead.

Its content is informed & insightful, and features a diverse range of writers from every section of the community. Its intent is to help LGBT readers learn about their own heritage and to sustain a link between the present and the past.

Polari is designed to nurture the idea of community, whether that be social and political, or artistic and creative. It is your magazine, whether you want to read it, or whether you want to get involved in it, if you're gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans, or queer.

Polari Magazine is all these: it's a gay online magazine; it's a gay and lesbian online magazine; it's an LGBT arts and culture magazine. Ultimately, it is a queer magazine.
