An Interview with Shlomo

02 Dec 2013 / Comments Off / in Interviews/by Little Bastard

Submission and power.

Shlomo talks about working with Björk, being crowned the World Loop Station Champion, and writing a beatboxing score for The Little Mermaid.

“Beatboxing is a live art form in its nature, in that it’s more than just the music, and you have to witness it live to really get it. But it’s also prone to being seen as a gimmick or a novelty act.”

Rat Race • Enter Shikari

14 Nov 2013 / Comments Off / in Music/by Little Bastard

[rating=5]
Released November 4, 2013
Enter Shikari’s Rat Race is a powerful condemnation of a pop culture obsessed with consumerism above all else.

“‘Enter Shikari seem to be the only prominent band talking about consumer culture and our intensely corrupt economic and political system with as much passion as most people talk about money and bitches.”

The Marshall Mathers LP2 • Eminem

14 Nov 2013 / Comments Off / in Music/by Little Bastard

[rating=5]
Released November 5, 2013
Little Bastard finds Eminem to be a beat poet at the top of his game and defends him against his detractors.

“Slim Shady, his violent alter ego, is not only the mouth piece for Eminem’s own frustration and anger, but also a mirror to society. Slim Shady is completely Eminem, whilst being the worst in all of us at the same time.”

Loved Me Back To Life • Celine Dion

08 Nov 2013 / Comments Off / in Music/by Little Bastard

[rating=4]
Released November 11, 2013
Loved Me Back To Life proves Celine Dion is probably more relevant now than she was 20 years ago.

“‘Dion sings her face off as expected, and drowns you in a sea of emotion at the same time, something that I’ve often thought was lacking from her strong but often toneless vocal delivery.”

Can You Feel My Heart • Bring Me The Horizon

24 Oct 2013 / Comments Off / in Music/by Little Bastard

[rating=5]
Released October 4, 2013
Can You Feel My Heart is metal that’s melodic and incorporates electronic elements a go-go.

“‘Can You Feel My Heart’ is one of my favourite songs of this year, and everything about this package is perfect, from the beautiful artwork to the cleverly chosen remixes and creepy cinematic gore of its music video.”

The 20/20 Experience – 2 of 2 • Justin Timberlake

24 Oct 2013 / Comments Off / in Music/by Little Bastard

[rating=3]
Released September 27, 2013
After the thrill of The 20/20 Experience Part 1, Part 2 is disappointing, and lacks the punch of its predecessor.

“The 20/20 Experience is the best record of Justin’s career to date, and in comparison its counterpart feels like an album of commercial off-cuts, lending weight to the rumours that it is the result of a contractual obligation.”

Head Up High • Morcheeba

11 Oct 2013 / Comments Off / in Music/by Little Bastard

[rating=5]
Released September 15, 2013
Head Up High features some of Morcheeba’s best work. Think about the new not the nostalgia.

“‘Opening track and lead single ‘Gimme Your Love’ is, hands down, the best thing they have ever released. Yes, better than ‘Trigger Hippy’. Yes, better than ‘Part Of The Process’. “

Electric Lady • Janelle Monae

10 Oct 2013 / Comments Off / in Music/by Little Bastard

[rating=4]
Released September 6, 2013
A daring fusion of nu funk/soul and sci-fi. Janelle Monae’s Metropolis is as much about robots as Animal Farm was about animals.

“‘This is not your run of the mill pop album – in fact it’s not really a pop album at all – it’s an alt-jazz-soul-sci fi experience that is best listened to as a whole rather than dipping in and out of when a quick pop fix is required.”

Exclusive: Chase reveals Magdalene Me on Polari

08 Oct 2013 / Comments Off / in Features/by Little Bastard

Angst and Raw Emotion.

Chase reveals new album artwork, debut single and track listing for Magdalene Me on Polari Magazine.

“If Lana del Rey had written ‘Video Games’ the morning after a drunken night with Frank Ocean and Trent Reznor, this would have been the result, a song full of soul distorted with neuroses.”

About Polari Magazine

Polari Magazine is an LGBT arts and culture magazine that explores the subculture by looking at what is important to the people who are in it. It’s about the lives we lead, not the lifestyles we’re supposed to lead.

Its content is informed & insightful, and features a diverse range of writers from every section of the community. Its intent is to help LGBT readers learn about their own heritage and to sustain a link between the present and the past.

Polari is designed to nurture the idea of community, whether that be social and political, or artistic and creative. It is your magazine, whether you want to read it, or whether you want to get involved in it, if you're gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans, or queer.

Polari Magazine is all these: it's a gay online magazine; it's a gay and lesbian online magazine; it's an LGBT arts and culture magazine. Ultimately, it is a queer magazine.
