The 20/20 Experience • Justin Timberlake

21 Mar 2013 / Comments Off / in Music/by Little Bastard

[rating=5]
Released March 15, 2013
Justin Timberlake’s The 20/20 Experience is, finds Little Bastard, a sonic thrill with a relatively uncommercial soundscape.

“The 20/20 Experience is probably one of the most impeccably produced albums I have ever heard. It’s not just slick, it’s intricate and beautiful, with a layer of soul that, if you scratch the surface of each song, bleeds through.”

Lonesome Dreams • Lord Huron

21 Mar 2013 / Comments Off / in Music/by Marcus Reeves

[rating=2]
Released January 21, 2013
Marcus Reeves finds that the cowboy sound starts off well but turns out to be style over substance.

“Lonesome Dreams feels like a project that has been made with great passion and is well played and put together, but rather than paint with his palette sparingly, Schneider has used all his colours at once on every sonic canvas to create an ultimately unwelcoming landscape.”

I Awake • Sarah Blasko

07 Mar 2013 / Comments Off / in Music/by Andrew Darley

[rating=5]
Released April 8, 2013
Sarah Blasko’s fourth album explores the joys and struggles involved in finding oneself, and is her best yet.

“I Awake is Sarah Blasko’s most fully-realised and compelling offering to date. The album is expansive in its approach, the music and the sentiments she devolves through it. Her writing has reached a place where it holds a mirror up to herself and her audience.”

Running To The Sea • Röyksopp Ft. Susanne Sundfør

14 Feb 2013 / Comments Off / in Music/by Andrew Darley

[rating=5]
Released December 12, 2012
Röyksopp’s collaboration with Norwegian singer-songwriter Susanne Sundfør is beautiful and haunting.

“Starting with a sobering piano and lamenting “burning houses and trees”, the song gradually builds up momentum with whirling synthesizers and choral chants, while leaving the scene’s destruction behind. “

Dreamchaser • Sarah Brightman

08 Feb 2013 / Comments Off / in Music/by Little Bastard

[rating=5]
Released January 29, 2013
An impeccably chosen, and beautifully interpreted, album of covers. All hail the queen of the P’Opera!

“She’s utterly bonkers, and not only announced last year she has plans to be the first person to ever sing from space (!!!) she is also about to release her 11th studio album, Dreamchaser, to accompany her bizarre space mission … and it’s possibly the best P’Opera crossover album ever made..”

No Fairy Tale • Lisa Loeb

31 Jan 2013 / Comments Off / in Music/by Little Bastard

[rating=3]
Released January 29, 2013
No Fairy Tale, by Lisa Loeb. A glossy, uptempo album of catchy pop songs.

” I’ve always favoured Lisa’s more melancholy moments to her rom-com bating slick uptempos and, as I got older, seem to have little tolerance for over polished American output.”

A Little More Love • Moya

24 Jan 2013 / Comments Off / in Music/by Nick Smith

[rating=5]
Released March 25, 2013
A striking ballad from Moya that promises great things from the singer in 2013.

“Opening with a subtle vocal and sombre piano, this stunning track threatens to build into a huge dance banger, but shrewdly kicks into a crossover with shuffling drums underpinned by a thudding bassline.”

Nightlife • Eli Van Sickel

17 Jan 2013 / Comments Off / in Music/by Walter Beck

[rating=5]
Released January 11, 2013
The latest release from Eli Van Sickel sees him stare into the dark night and find beauty there.

“Eli has delivered a masterpiece, a mix of traditional folk songs, his own originals, some unexpected experimental moments and a poet’s feel for the love and passion for the life under the moon.”

A Mother’s Prayer • Ralph Stanley

13 Dec 2012 / Comments Off / in Music/by Walter Beck

[rating=4]
40.46 min • Rebel Records • April 19, 2011

An album of old-time blues gospel from Ralph Stanley, the undisputed King of American Bluegrass.

“Even if you’re not a religious person, give this album a spin, it may not save your soul, but it’s still a joy to listen to.”

Bastards • Björk

06 Dec 2012 / Comments Off / in Music/by Andrew Darley

[rating=5]
November 19, 2012

This album of remixes remoulds and reimagines the material Biophilia and pumps it full of new blood and beats.

“Some say that good artists borrow, great artists steal. If this is the case, each and every remix on here is a masterful product of thievery, as this compilation is exhilarating and outshines some of its source material.”
