From young tattooed hipsters to suited city gents, the streets of London are awash with stylish bearded men, and Jonathan Daniel Pryce spent 100 days between July and October, documenting this growing trend amongst London’s male population. 100 Beards, 100 Days, is the highly popular blogging project from London-based photographer Jonathan Daniel Pryce. It is now being published as a coffee table book. An exhibition of portraits taken from the series is running at the Front Room from November 01-05, 2012.

Jonathan explains the motivation behind 100 Beards: “I started the project for two main reasons: I am fascinated by how new trends emerge and I wanted to document the many amazing beards I see on a daily basis in London. Secondly, I have major beard envy – I can’t grow a good beard myself so this project made me live vicariously through others”.

The project has received a huge amount of interest both in the UK and abroad, appearing in publications such as i-D Magazine and GQ. The limited edition hard back coffee table book will include every portrait from the original blog as well as outtakes and additional photographs taken over the 100 days.

Having had a beard for over 25 years I knew I just had to wait to be ‘in’ again.

Men are invariably improved by being hairier, in my humble opinion …

About Polari Magazine

Polari Magazine is an LGBT arts and culture magazine that explores the subculture by looking at what is important to the people who are in it. It’s about the lives we lead, not the lifestyles we’re supposed to lead.

Its content is informed & insightful, and features a diverse range of writers from every section of the community. Its intent is to help LGBT readers learn about their own heritage and to sustain a link between the present and the past.

Polari is designed to nurture the idea of community, whether that be social and political, or artistic and creative. It is your magazine, whether you want to read it, or whether you want to get involved in it, if you're gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans, or queer.

Polari Magazine is all these: it's a gay online magazine; it's a gay and lesbian online magazine; it's an LGBT arts and culture magazine. Ultimately, it is a queer magazine.
