Homophobes tweets captured, gay online magazine

Trending on Twitter is something of a mystery. If you don’t know what it is, here’s a brief summary: the most talked about subjects on Twitter trend – all right, that’s the easy part to understand. But this is where it gets mystifying. Phrases known as “hashtags” also trend. Right now, three hashtag trends are:

#WhyImFatExcuses
#StonglyAttractedTo
#Thefeelingiget

So, someone starts a hashtag, and then for some reason others pick up on it, and it starts to snowball thoughtout the Twittersphere, and …

Anyway, to the point! On March 12 #ToMyUnbornChild started to trend, and it brought on hundreds of tweets from thoroughly disturbed people who said they’d kill their kid if he or she turned out to be gay.

Thanks to the work of the Twitter user @homophobes, you can read all the spiteful outpourings. It’s all decidedly mediaeval, and rather like a virtual witch burning. But like so many music videos, it’s about displaying attitude, and not actually doing and/or being anything. The only thing being murdered is English grammar. To which the response would undoubtedly be, “your right, ill no it” …

When they look at that baby, unless they are absolutely heartless, I doubt they could kill him/her. It’s easy to say now because they don’t have children.

    Are…is it possible they’re trolling?
That doesn’t make the sentiments any better, but these seem like…children’s exaggerations. That is, not only offensive, but so wildly overblown that they undercut themselves. Is anyone else getting that read on some (a lot) of these?

I know, it’s just so odd … By the way, I don’t actually know what “trolling” means in this context. Sorry to be a bit dense!!!

Being offensive intentionally for some type of sociopathic entertainment.
If they are they are still sociopaths and not fit for being included in humanity.

trolling = saying inflammatory things to elicit a strong response. a la: getting someone’s goat. I’m with belenos…I wonder what the real age is of most of these tweets. It sounds like dumb kids.

Thanks! The funny thing is that in the Polari lexicon ‘trolling’ means ‘to be on the prowl looking for sex’ …

I think that child services should be looking into this…if they said that they would kill there children if they turned out to be anything other then blonde hair blue eyes I’m sure some one would take a stand to see if they are actually fit parents. These are death threats, it’s the exact same as saying if you’re a girl then I will kill you. This insanity needs to end.

I’m astonished! I agree Christal, doesn’t this stuff qualify as “hate speech”? Last time I looked, that was against the law. It’s amazing how many ignorant, or just plain stupid, people there are out there.

Ignorance, can be cured via information. Stupidity on the other hand???? I think people uttering such things and that towards an unborn child is mentally deficient and should not be allowed to be a parent.

I wish it were just trolling. Unfortunately I had a fight with an ex 18 years ago because he expressed the same sentiment. I’m no longer with the douchebag, but married a wonderful man that doesn’t care if his young son wears great grandma’s giant clip on earrings out to eat.

To the readers who think “mediaeval” is spelled wrong, that is an English spelling, much the same way as we spell “colour”:

It is interesting how many homophobes is parading around saying hurtful and hateful things towards others. I myself am gay and came out to my parents at the age of 28. The most frightful thing I ever did as both my parents were pastors of an evangelical church (I say were because my mother passed away recently, my father still is). I shall remember that day till the day I died. I was actually prompted to come out. My cousin came out to his mother, which phoned my mother (they were sisters). I came home and my mom called me into her bedroom. Sitting on her bed she told me the story of my cousin, saying she told my aunt she had suspicions of another gay person in the family. I sighed, lowered my head and said, you are right mom, it’s me. I started crying then, but my mom just hugged me and said she had known since I was 2 years old, there was just something different. The point I’m trying to make is this: Your child is not born yet, and you are spewing hate at the poor human being formed. Remember one thing once that child is born and the bond is formed, there is very little you will not forgive your child. Talk again when you have raised that child and the child tells you he/she is gay or bisexual for that matter. Will you still want to kill him/her? I think not.
    This is my 2cents worth.
