New Orleans Is The New Vietnam • Eyehategod

27 Sep 2012 / Comments Off / in Music/by Walter Beck

[rating=4]
4.10 min • A389 Recordings • August 30, 2012

After seven years, Eyehategod is back with the single New Orleans Is The New Vietnam, from the new, as yet untitled, album.

“Williams’ voice is like no other; it’s not merely screaming or growling, his voice becomes an instrument in and of itself, his words blurring to become musical notes rather than something to sing along to. It’s the vocalization of a tortured soul in its purest form.”

The Truth About Love • Pink

20 Sep 2012 / Comments Off / in Music/by Little Bastard

[rating=3]
Released September 14, 2012, RCA

The new album from Pink, The Truth About Love, has its moments, but is nothing remarkable, and fairly bland in one too many places.

“Pink manages to capture my feelings about the walk of shame completely, coming across like a slightly soiled Katy Perry, still smelling of JD and cigarette smoke, and I’m more than happy with that.”

20 Sep 2012 / Comments Off / in Music/by Little Bastard

[rating=4]
Released September 14, 2012, Mosley / Interscope

Nelly Furtado is more herself on The Spirit Indestructible and is well matched working with R’n’B legend Rodney Jerkins.

“Working with Rodney Jerkins was a smart move, as he’s allowed her songs to flourish without being drowned in style. He’s also musically innovative enough to cope with Nelly’s quirky and alternative writing style.”

20 Sep 2012 / Comments Off / in Music/by Andrew Darley

[rating=4]
Released September 03, 2012, Matador

Cat Power’s ninth studio album, Sun, is emotionally powerful and as life-affirming as its title.

“Sun stands tall as an album eloquently informed by emotional experience and maturity.”

20 Sep 2012 / Comments Off / in Music/by Nick Smith

[rating=5]
Released October 01, 2012, Deutsche Grammophon

Nick Smith finds the new Tori Amos album Gold Dust, a reinterpretation of her songs arranged with an orchestra, to be both magnificent and enchanting.

“Gold Dust is a cathartic journey through Amos’s mindmap and is a truly captivating and earnest affair. The powerful lyrics, the stunning orchestral arrangements and that beautiful, haunting voice form a superb testament to one of the most distinctive sonic architects of our time.”

[rating=4]
Released September 16, 2012, Modular Recordings

Little Bastard is surprised by the latest album from The Presets, which is innovative, and takes the band in new directions.

This is a dense album, and on the surface you might not GET it, but listen again, and you’ll hear the layers, you’ll hear the brilliance, and you’ll hear the message.”

13 Sep 2012 / Comments Off / in Music/by Little Bastard

[rating=3]
Released September 10, 2012, Venn Records

Little Bastard takes a look at the new Gallows, minus Frank Carter, and although it starts out loud and promising he finds something missing.

“The music is well crafted and produced (a little too overproduced at times) but it feels a little bit like the punk version of buying a sports car after a divorce.”

13 Sep 2012 / Comments Off / in Music/by Little Bastard

[rating=5]
Released September 10, 2012, 8ft. Records

This is Amanda Palmer as she always promised to be, writes Little Bastard, with insightful and moving lyrics, and killer pop hooks.

“In many ways, ‘Theatre Is Evil’ is Amanda Palmer’s masterwork. It takes its influence from glam rock, new wave and punk, managing to make some songs sound like all three at points, butnowhere in the process does Amanda lose her identity.”

Doleo, the first of four EPs that make up the album Human Condition, is a beautiful collection of mature, alternative pop songs.

“Doleo is a collection of mature, alternative pop songs, all with positive messages of growth and self respect, right from the beautiful artwork to the stunning songs underneath.”

Emergency Room • Etta Bond x Raf Riley

30 Aug 2012 / Comments Off / in Music/by Little Bastard

[rating=4]
Released July 20, 2012 on digital download: www.emergency-room.co.uk

This is harsh, dark dubstep, an exercise in sonic intimidation … and it’s free to download!

“With its dark, harsh dubstep and the psychotic ‘single white female’ intro before it, we get a totally different take on rejection. You really don’t want to mess with Etta Bond, boys and girls.”
